Biography- Mrs. Whitney, Third Grade

Biography- Mrs. Whitney, Third Grade

One might say that I have "teacher" blood flowing in my veins!  Both my parents are retired teachers.  My sister is a career High School teacher.  I have numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, and cousins in the teaching profession.
I had been in professional sales, marketing, and management in the high-tech, commercial environmental planning, and agricultural chemical industries since I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.  But ever since our three children started elementary school, teaching began to have an enormous appeal for me.  After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, I began to pursue my second career twelve years ago.  I earned my Professional Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a C.L.A.D. emphasis from California State University, Fresno.  I went on to earn my Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) through CSU, Fresno as well.  Along the way I added a Preliminary Administrative Service Credential.  I truly believe that we are all life-long learners!
I am married to a wonderful husband, Bill, and we have three fabulous children.  Our two boys, Wayland and Trevor, are attending college at UC Davis and CSU Chico.  Our daughter, Summer, just graduated from Rocklin High School and is attending Sierra College.  All three are involved in music, journalism and fine arts.  We have lived in Rocklin for twenty-three years, and believe it is the best place ever to raise a family!
I am very excited to be teaching Third Grade this year!  This will by my 11th year of teaching.  Before coming to Sunset Ranch Elementary School, I taught at Rocklin Academy Charter School and Foresthill Divide Middle School.
It is such a thrill to be a part of the learning process, to see a child's eyes light up as he or she comprehends a new concept.  It is a privilege to be part of the tremendous growth that takes place in all areas of your child's academic and social progression.  The Third Grade is such a special time in a child's life, and I cannot think of anything more important than helping to lay a strong foundation of basic learning skills that will be utilized for the rest of their lives!
