Homework

Homework reinforces what is learned at school and instills good work habits. Assignments are generally pre-taught in class, which means students should always know the directions of their assignments when working on them at home.

Homework binders come home on Wednesdays with a week's supply of homework assignments. Completed assignments should be returned with the binder the following Tuesday. In this way, children have the benefit of working on homework over the weekend as well.

In general, Kindergarteners should do 10 minutes of homework each night, 20 minutes for first graders, 30 for second graders, and 40 for third graders.
Children should, in addition, spend 20 minutes each night in reading practice using the books that come home in their binders. Some children will bring home a book each day which should be read and returned the next day. These children are expected to take a comprehension test on the book the next morning. This is a part of our Accelerated Reading Program.

If you feel that your child is spending too much or too little time on their assignments, please let me know so I can work with your child toward a solution. Please work with your child to stay on top of long-term projects which will come home periodically.
