Homework
Reading, writing, spelling and math are vital to our first grade year so homework will revolve around these academic areas. Please plan on your student spending one half hour each evening on homework and twenty minutes on reading. Please sit down with your child and review their homework for accuracy before sending it back to school.
Reading
Each night (Tues-Fri) your child will bring home a Reading Book Bag. In the bag will be a book that was worked on in reading groups during class and a log sheet. Your child is to read the book to and with you every night at least three times. Then fill out the log sheet and return the book bag, with the book, to school every morning. If a book is not sent home, please have your child make a selection from the books you have at home and log that in. Occasionally your child will bring home the same book two nights in row to practice to fluency and verbal expression
Green Homework Folder
A Green Homework Folder will be sent home every Monday and will need to be returned by Friday. The folder will include the following things:
- Spelling Words
- Sight words
- Math homework
- Writing Journal
- And occasional Poetry folder
